Harrywas a therapy POA for Sherman our Mule. He is a rescue Appaloosa Pony that is all attitude. Then aren't most ponies. Harry is excellent with children and wonderful to ride. He hds terminal cancer and we are taking it one day at a time. He lost his battle against cancer and was humanely euthanized by Dr. DeLaPaz. We keep his picture on this site as a tribute to the wonderful animal he is.
Sherman, a delightful Mule, is not a rescue. He was a gift. The issue is Sherman, once used as a cutting horse, came to us with an abscess in his hoof, now healed well, and his therapy pony Harry. Sherman has panic attacks if Harry is not with him. Increasingly Sherman is adjusting to Rogue and Rebel and he feels so much safer in his small herd. Sherman now depends on Rogue and Rebel with the passing of Harry. Sherman is 34-years-old, slowing down, and we are fighting to keep weight on him. He is wormed regularly and gets supplements everyday. We have the vet visit regularly. We fight the good fight daily to keep weight on him.
Rogue, a Florida Cracker Horse, was a rescue. He came to us skinny, scarred, and untouchable. He has little to no respect for humans that have shown him no love or compassion prior to us. He now loves Peppermint and Banana treats, has gained weight and confidence and selects who is allowed to touch him. At this stage we have no idea if he will ever allow us to saddle and trail ride him and it makes no difference. We are committed to providing sanctuary if that is what he needs to be happy.
Rebel is a young colt that was also a rescue with Rogue. He could not walk on his front right leg when he came to us. Dr. Jackson assessed him and determined there was nerve damage during his birth. With her assistance the damage was repaired and Rebel runs like the wind on all four legs. He too was untouchable and thankfully he now loves a good cuddle. The little minx will nip your hand if you do not have a treat for him. He has a bright spirit and would be a wonderful horse for a child to grow with.Rebel is available for adoption.
Yukon, Granny & Momma
Three full sized donkeys recently came to rescue. We have no history on them and were told their owner took ill and could not care for them. Unfortunately the two girls we call Granny and Momma may be pregnant so we may have foals down the road. Yukon will be gelded once he settles in. There are enough mules in the world without our adding to the numbers.
Black Berry, Halle Berry & Jack Jack the Magnificent II
It's miniature donkey beauties. These guys are so friendly it makes being in the pasture fun. Their delightful bray always bring a smile to our face.
